The Fat Controller (A.K.A. Sir Topham Hatt, or The Fat Director) is the manager of the Sodor Railway. He makes stern yet fair decisions and always treats his engines equally for he "has no favorites." He often travels from station to station to observe the activity, and he offices in each of them so he can direct the railway from wherever he is. He is married to Lady Hatt, and has a son, Stephen, and a daughter, Bridget.
